இந்தியன் வழி தனி வழி .....

Three contractors are bidding to fix a broken fence at the White House in Washington D.C. One from Bangladesh , another from India and the third, from China.

They go with a White House office to examine the fence.

The Bangladesh contractor takes out a tape measure and does some measuring, then works some figures with a pencil. "Well", he says, "I figure the job will run about $900. ($400 for materials, $400 for my team and $100 profit for me)".

The Chinese contractor also does some measuring and figuring, then says, "I can do this job for $700. ($300 for materials, $300 for my team and $100 profit for me)".

The Indian contractor doesn't measure or figure, but leans over to the White House official and whispers, "$2,700."

The official, outraged says, "You didn't even measure like the other guys! How did you come up with such a high figure?"

The Indian contractor whispers back, "$1000 for me, $1000 for you, and we hire the guy from China to fix the fence."

"Done!" replies the government official.

This incident may be a joke because the fact in Indian corruption is much much ahead of these figures

  1. Dear Chocka,
It is a good one but i strongly object comparing with bengalis and chinese, who are more corrupt that indians. Here in saudi, the government stopped issuing any work visas to the bangladeshis because they are involved in more criminal activities than any other nationals, in most of the govt offices in saudi the cleaning labourers are bangladeshis, if you want to get your work done, find a bengali working in that office and he can get anything done(like getting a family visa, getting the driving license, solving some police cases, etc.) for you for some money. Recently a friend of mine who worked in china for many years had told me that the corruption at its worst in china, but the media cant report it due to censorship.

  2. Hi..Karayan,

With your exposure in other countries I accept your stand in this.
Still we are saying that India is not worse like Bangaladesh or X,Y,Z countries..We are not even saying better than others.
From a Grama panchayat to Ministry of India nothing is moving without Vitamin M.
Even you can see Lord Venkateswara at short cut if you throw money. "Kasirunthathaan namma naatula kadavula kooda pakka mudiyum"
It is shame that everybody expects money even for their normal routine work.
Ultimately a doctor is charging more..Pvt companies are cheating public..Educational institutions..media..service sectors..what not.. all are taxing the common man.Even I am also knowingly doing the same thing.
If you are too honest you name in this country is "Pozhaikkath theriyatha Manushan"

  3. Dear Chocka,
so you accept everyone is a culprit, you,me and everyone....and you dont find a way out of it...i bought agri land four year back and the free electricity connection was in the previous owner's name, everytime i come home i go to the concerned authorities, applied, enquired again and again....only this year after i gave 2000 rupees, within a day the connection was transferred to my name, you may say it is shame on my part to encourage corruption, but imagine how i could have done it....eventhough i am incurring loss cultivating paddy, i am doing it, i can also develop some housing plots and make money buyt

  4. i am adamant cultivating, this is what i can do...but i dont know how long i can resist this and keep losing on agriculture...may be after ten years, people will be forced to eat only processed food forget about the farming......this year when i was on vacation it was very disheartening to see so many farm lands developed into housing plots from mayiladuthurai to thiruvarur to mannargudi road....many people blame the "nooru naal velai uruthi thittam" due to this there is an acute shortage of labour and many farming lands turned into housing plots.

  5. Hi.. Karayan,

I am really proud that you are a man with certain principle.Cutivation is really a rare choice of our generation I am so glad you opted that.Whether it's big or small doesn't matter. You make a difference.
I would like to remind you the age old story on this

While walking along a beach, an elderly gentleman saw someone in the distance leaning down, picking something up and throwing it into the ocean.

As he got closer, he noticed that the figure was that of a young man, picking up starfish one by one and tossing each one gently back into the water.

He came closer still and called out, "Good morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?"

The young man paused, looked up, and replied "Throwing starfish into the ocean."

The old man smiled, and said, "I must ask, then, why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?"

To this, the young man replied, "The sun is up and the tide is going out. If I don't throw them in, they'll die."

Upon hearing this, the elderly observer commented, "But, young man, do you not realize that there are miles and miles of beach and there are starfish all along every mile? You can't possibly make a difference!"

The young man listened politely. Then he bent down, picked up another starfish, threw it into the back into the ocean past the breaking waves and said, "It made a difference for that one."

Mate...without knowing you are making big difference.
I salute you from my heart

  6. Yeah - corruption happens here too but very subtle and not so blatant. Having links helps in jobs but perhaps not to the extent that it happens at home.

  8. Hi All,
Chokku is correct and Karayan is wrong on their views about corruption in India.
When we tell something bad about our nation,we should not compare with other countries. But,we should compete in good matters.Regarding the payment of bribe by Karayan,it is not wrong. For he has been forced to do so-no waiting period.See my case, when I left for Qatar,I had to pay hefty bribe to get relieved from the TN Govt. job, eventhough there was no benefit for me from the TN Govt.
Yes,we can fight only when there is no forcing.
    BHAI.
