Chocka, I am afraid it is condolences no matter who wins because of the extensive corruption. But with amma, I have seen persecution of Christians specifically in a rampant fashion which did not exist when I lived at thaainadu 19 yrs ago. India is still a secular country and all of us were always taught to respect other religions and for that upbringing I am grateful. There is a lot of church burning in villages and specifically some of my relatives were hurt in Tirupoor. So this information comes on a personal level. I am not sure DMK was any better either. But amma has special laws in place which hurts religious freedom. Gujili
Gujili.. I could remember only the atrocities of Amma related to corruption, arrogance, not being close to the people, dominance of Mannargudi family, lack of seriousness while not in the power and taking rest most of the days in her luxurious bungalow in Kodanadu, blocking the trafic for hours together in Chennai etc..etc. Her approach towards Christians and Muslims is debatable.I remember as she was portrayed as MATHA got into criticism. May be this time there is a chance of correcting her attitudes. Let's wait and see. Chocks
Dear Gujili, these happenings are due to the decreased level of tolerance among our people, it happens in every regime. All religions are nowadays less tolerant and people are more and more sensitive. And also the media wants to make everything sensationalised and it adds more fuel to the fire. I am not supporting jayalalithaa but karunanidhi is equally bad. karaiyan.
Dear Natchathirangale, I don't think Amma's approach towards other religions are debatable, neither is it media sensationilazation because my own thaaimaama was arrested, the church that their members had built was burnt down, the Pastor was beaten and killed, all of this to the point it actually made national news here. Anyways the bottom line is when the people you love are affected it is hard to dismiss it. Nevertheless whatever the case I hope it works out for our people in Tamilnadu. So I will just increase my prayers for the people and the rulers. But you folks are right that all the politicians are thirudargal. As long as people's freedom is not affected and their basic privileges to live and practice whatever religion they want is also not affected it is OK. Gujili
My condolences to my thainaatu makkal. Nice picture though.
