When I read Karaiyan's ularalgal, I had an urge to start my own rambling. I guess it is part of the vayasu kolaaru. When life is going on at its own speed and things are happening to you and your body and your family, you want to go back to a safe and happy place in your memory lane and reside there till you feel recharged and rejuvenated. Part of all this effort is the blogs, reunions, posting pictures and generally staying in touch with the friends of your youth.
My little box of memories is always set in MVC during our college days. I feel every stone, every building, chair, desks, teachers, ancillary staff including the gate man conspired to make it the most wonderful part of our life. Don't get me wrong, we have had many other momentous events in our life like marriage, giving birth to a child, building a home etc but none of these can compare to this little part of our life which is so precious to me even now.
The different emotions I experienced here from extreme happiness on a good grade or a good comment from a peer or the terror of not knowing the answer to a question in an important test. Then making up some rubbish answer as you pray to every God so that you don't get caught. The mischief making as a group, thinking we know better than our professors as they look on us with pity and envy, since they have had their share of fun in their youth.
My close friends who were my pillars and foundation on which I existed, who supported my cockiness and even arrogance that youth endows on us. There was pure love between us which has been tested over time and always come out shining than ever. These are the gifts that life bestowed on us without our asking or expectation. But I do pray that my son experiences something like what all of us did in Madras Veterinary College. The buildings may have changed, the people might have left but my sincerest hope is that the nurturing atmosphere still exists where a student feels they can conquer the world thanks to the experiences we gained in this beautiful institution.
