Folks here is the national library of medicine article for detection of Brucellosis using PCR. Click on the link.

Based on what I am reading so far one uses the PCR to support the agglutination test. As the agglutination test sometimes tests positive for related strains of Brucella. As Bhai mentioned earlier if the symptoms, culture test and agglutination support the diagnosis along with the PCR as confirmation one should definitely cull the animal.
If I find more supporting material I shall paste the link.

Thank you very much gujili for your effort. The problem camel vets face is there are not many research on camels, whatever we get are more from bovine. The common brucella sp here in saudi among camels is B.melitensis, due to the proximity of camels to sheep and goats. Cattle are restricted to the dairy farms and there no cattle raised in the free range. When we check camels which are used for milking with the agglutination test, for camels with a high titre(> 1/80) we do PCR, all camels which had even high titre in agglutination test came negative(we did PCR in more than 20 camels),there are no clinical signs in any of these camels(all were recently calved and had a healthy calf).

Are you adapting any serious vaccination programme?
பதிலளிநீக்குChocks
No. The problem is it is not regularised. Brucella Vaccine should be given at a very young age. In many camels the vaccination status is unknown as they are bought as breeding/pregnant camels.

I think brucellin will be of use in field conditions for diagnosing brucella. Angela can provide more details on this.

Karayaan - you are right, there is not much research on camels. But let me check around for some information. One of my vet friends here may be able to shed some more light on this. Since you said there is no history for these animals it makes it even more difficult.
பதிலளிநீக்குPerhaps they should consider extension efforts in educating the farmers and camel owners on vaccination - may be you can spearhead it if you can bring it to the attention of the government there??
Gujili
I agri with Gujili.Awareness programme can be created for vaccination and buying only the camels with vaccination history or ruling out the animals free from Brucelosis.I feel the no of Camels may not be that much like Cattle in India awareness programmes can be initiated by determined vets like Karaiyan.

Folks - I looked up using brucellin test but apparently it is not as sensitive as other tests. The latest article is from 2000. So Karayaan - I think PCR is your best bet and as mentioned earlier extensive education of farmers and vaccination may be the key.
