When I read Karaiyan's point about life and maturity, my thoughts flew back to Gujili and my behavior in first year of College. We both were only 16 years old and of course thought we were all grown up and mature to be in College.!!
This incident that I am going to narrate happened in Physiology lab. We had to Urine analysis and of course everybody in our blog knows what samples we used. After much giggling and discussion between the two of us we managed to get a sample and started our experiments. Then I have no clue what possessed us but we decided to chase each other carrying the test tubes around the lab!!
A PG student was supervising us and was extremely shocked at our behavior and promptly sent us off to the professor's office.(as usual can't remember who it was, gujili might help here) And we got yelled at and thrown out of the lab. We of course continued laughing and giggling all the way to the canteen!!
Now my question is, how will gujili's students react if they got to know about this story of their strict and mature professor!!!!

  1. Dear GFK,
I remember this incident crystal clearly and I won't forget the umpteen # of times we ran around the surgery OT units and in clinics to name a few. My students do know that I can act 16 every once in a while. Remember in classrooms here students expect a commedy routine with lectures and not the respectful atmosphere we had at home. One time I couldn't flip the switch on the projector so I had to stand up on the table in front of the whole class of 70 students to do it. Another instance I had to run out of the room to chase a student who was running away from class, I will spare the details. I do have some commedy routines that I do to keep the class engaging in addition to mimicry and such. The background from MVC definitely gave me plenty of practice to be amusing.

  2. GFK,
Regarding the physiology professor, I think it was daddy's class..
Also by no means am I considered a strict professor - rather it is interpreted as "not flexible" ..

  3. Dear GFK,
If gujili's students know about her MVC stories, they will treat her as We treated the likes of Narasimman,Rasagopalan,Vengoba Rao,Sivanathan etc.. to name a few.So, let us treat Gujili as Mustaq or PSR or Sheshastri or some other brilliant tutors whom we had in MVC.

  4. Dear Bhai,
I feel honored to be considered in the likes of Mustaq or Seshadri though I don't consider myself worthy and thanks to your mercy for not being considered equal to vengobarao. It is truly amazing the things one has to do to here to establish themselves as faculty members. You are right the MVC stories would change my image completely, heck I may be perceived as "supercool"..In this country we would all still be perceived as "nerds" and not quite "cool"

  6. Dear Gujili,
I would like to compare you with Dr.Gunaseelan, because i consider him a teacher with a good sense of humour. I hope you are not like thilakar," medial aspect of the anterio-laterally and dorsally to the posterior median plane on the left lateral.....blah,blah" and i hope most of your classes should be lively? and not like Dr.Adithan, the news reader from preventive medicine.

  7. Karaiyan,
No if I had classes like some of our profs did at vets school I wouldn't have my job today and definitely not tenure or promotion!! I have to be entertaining and keep it lively at the same time flexible and we definitely CANNOT discipline any of the students. I try to liven it up by also keeping it very interactive otherwise it gets too boring and they "love" to talk and discuss so it makes it easier.

  8. Dear Karaiyan:
I would definitely vote for Gunaseelan and Asha as some of the best profs we had. I have to say I liked thilagar and amirjaan too.

  9. Dear GFK
I am not degrading dr.thilakar, he was trying his best, but the problem was his classes were not lively, may be because of the subject, but i feel it could have been better, he was like a military officer.

I like to say that in addition to Gunaseelan, and Asha I will have to add Dr. Seshadri our Anatomy Prof... As for thilag, I have to agree with Karayan.
